Articles about PIL's research have appeared in The Atlantic Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Education Week, Inside Higher Education, Library Journal, and The Seattle Times. In 2013, *Library Journal* named PIL one of the "Big Four Research Studies" about library users.
Head led the 2007 exploratory information literacy study, a forerunner to PIL, at Saint Mary's College of California, where she taught as the Disney Visiting Professor in New Media for 10 years. Head earned her Ph.D. and MLS from U.C. Berkeley in Library and Information Science. She has been a Faculty Associate and a Fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet & Society and a Visiting Scholar at Stanford studying Human-Computer Interaction.
